2018 Itinerary:
Day 1 (Saturday)                    MADRID / ALIVIA / SALAMANCA / PORTO
Depart from the centrally located VPT Tours Office / Bus Terminal at 0800 to Alivia, a city that preserves its medieval wall; a short stop to see the wall and the old town, then onto Salamanca. Free time in this University City; next depart to the Portuguese border until we reach the city of Porto. Dinner and accommodation.
 
Day 2 (Sunday)                      PORTO
After breakfast enjoy a panoramic tour of this World Heritage city; to admire the Cathedral, the stock Exchange building and the Santa Clara church. Finish the tour at a local wine cellar to experience a tasting of the famous “Port wine”. Dinner and accommodation.
 
Day 3 (Monday)                     PORTO/ COIMBRA
Breakfast and depart to Coimbra, site of one of the oldest universities in Europe, famous as a centre of learning and culture as seen in ancient streets and architecture,and birthplace of Fado, the music of Portugal. Time at leisure. Dinner and accommodation.
 
Day 4 (Tuesday)                    COIMBRA/ FATIMA / LISBON
After breakfast, depart to Fatima the centre of the Christian Faith and World Pilgrimage Sanctuary with its impressive Basilica and the Cova da Iria place where the Virgin Maryappeared. The Chapel of the Apparitions, heart of the sanctuary, with the tombs of the three shepherds, Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta. Free time to visit the Shrine and then continue to Lisbon. Accommodation. Optional night tour to attend a show of Fado, typical Portuguese song and music.
 
Day 5 (Wednesday)               LISBON
After breakfast a sightseeing tour of the ancient Olissipo, drive through its main squares and avenues, Belem Tower, Jeronimos Monastery, Coach Museum, Monument to the Discoveries, Marquis of Pombal Square, Liberty Avenue, the Alfama quarter and the old city gathered next to the castle, with buildings nested in narrow twisting “Ruas” full of colour housing the genuine “tebernas” where Fado sounds as a missing past. The afternoon is at leisure. Accommodation. Optional tour to Sintra, Cascais and Estoril.
 
Day 6 (Thursday)                   LISBON / CACERES / SEVILLE
Breakfast and depart for Caceres (World Heritage City)because of the city's blend of Roman, Islamic, Northern Gothic and Italian Renaissance architecture. We will walk through its Plaza Mayor and the Old Town with its Medieval Quarter. Lunch on your own. Next is Seville, a wonderful city, regarded by some as the romantic capital of Andalucía. Visitors can understand why this city is the setting for the Operas Carmen, Don Juan and Figaro as well as being the home of the fiery flamenco; they feel it, in the narrow streets, squares, courtyards and colourful patios of the Santa Cruz district. Dinner and accommodation.
 
Day 7 (Friday)                        SEVILLE
After breakfast a morning city tour visiting the Barrio de Santa Cruz with its narrow streets, the Park of Maria Luisa and Plaza de Espana, with panoramic sightseeing of the city. Optional Artistic tour including the Royal Alcazar Palace. Lunch and then an afternoon at leisure to explore the city, perhaps a river cruise along the Guadalquir or a visit to the pseudo reconstruction of Pontius Pilates House (Casa de Pilatos), which began in the 16th century, and presents an interesting blend of mudejar, gothic and renaissance styles with its beautiful patio and gallery, elegant fountain and ornamental minerva statues. Accommodation.
 
Day 8 (Saturday)                    SEVILLE / RONDA / MARBELLA
Following breakfast, travel the route of the white villages including a stopover in Ronda, located over a deep ravine cut into rock 100 metres the Rio Tajo. Ronda has a spectacular location, this town simply invites visitors to wander along fascinating streets and alleys, or relax at one of the local cafes, perhaps overlooking the gorge, enjoying the beautiful regional cuisine and fine local wines while watching the world go by. Continue to the Costa del Sol and arrive at Marbella. Dinner and accommodation.
 
Day 9 (Sunday)                      MARBELLA / TANGIER / FES
After breakfastdepart for Algeciras or Tarifa to board the ferry crossing the Strait of Gibraltar towards Africa. Arrive into Morocco and after customs continue by motorcoach toFes. Dinner and accommodation.
 
Day 10 (Monday)                   FES
The most ancient of the Imperial Cities, founded in the 8th century, Fes has become the spiritual heart and cultural centre of Morocco. Following breakfast, a morning sightseeing program including the Medersa, considered to be the first university of the Islamic world, the old Kasbah and its narrow streets, a visit to the dyers and tanners quarters where sheep and goatskins are coloured and processed into fashionable garments, the fountain Najerine, and the great Medina. An afternoon at leisure allows visitors to discover and explore Fes themselves which can be achieved in hours or days, this is a wonderful city with a fabulous “World Heritage” medieval medina. Dinner and accommodation.
 
Day 11 (Tuesday)                  FES / MEKNES / MARRAKECH
Breakfast then depart to Meknes, old walled city dating from 17th century, located in the mid-Atlas mountains, surrounded by 40kms of walls and the most beautiful gate in Morocco, “Bab Al Mansour”. Continue through the mountains to arrive in Marrakech. Dinner and accommodation.
 
Day 12 (Wednesday)             MARRAKECH
Following breakfast, a morning city sightseeing tour visiting the Menara Gardens, the Koutoubia Tower, Bahia Palace and the famous Djemaa el Fna Squarefilled with its magical sights and sounds including snake charmers, jugglers, acrobats, storytellers, pickpockets and even dentists. Djemaa El Fna is special. Afternoon at leisure to continue discovering this exciting city by yourself. Dinner and accommodation.
 
Day 13 (Thursday)                 MARRAKECH / CASABLANCA / RABAT
After breakfast depart to Casablanca, take a panoramic tour of Casablanca, economical capital and most populated city in Morocco, visiting Anfa Boulevard, Nations Square and residential areas. We will continue our visit to see the exterior of the Hassan II Mosque, second in size and importance after Mecca. Depart for Marrakech and in the afternoon take a sightseeing tour of this Imperial city visiting the Koutubia, twin mosque of the Giralda of Seville, the Saddian Tombs, Bahia Palace and the famous Djemaa el Fna Square filled with its magical sights and sounds including snake charmers, jugglers, acrobats, storytellers, pickpockets and even dentists. Time at Leisure and then continue to Rabat. Dinner and accommodation.
 
Day 14 (Friday)                      RABAT / TANGIER
Breakfast, Rabat the capital of the Kingdom of Morocco and official residence of the King, enjoy a sightseeing city tour including the exterior of the Royal Palace, Mausoleum of Mohamed V and the Hassan Tower, symbol of this city. Time at leisure to visit the spectacular Kasbh of Oudaias. Continue to Tangier. Dinner and accommodation.
 
Day 15 (Saturday)                  TANGIER / MARBELLA
After breakfast departure to board the ferry and cross the Strait back to Spain. Continue to Costa del Sol and arrive into Marbella. Dinner and accommodation.
 
Day 16 (Sunday)                    MARBELLA / GRANADA
After breakfast depart for Granada, the final stronghold of the Moorish Kingdom in 1492, a glorious city immortalised in song and verse, overlooked by the majestic snow covered Sierra Nevadas. Enjoy a sightseeing tour visiting the Alhambra with its beautiful Nazari Palaces and the Generalife Gardens, which showcases Moorish palaces and towers and gardens, including terraces, pools and fountains in an incomparable setting – the Alhambra is special. Dinner and accommodation. Optional visit to the caves of Sacromonte and attend a typical show of gipsy flamenco.
 
Day 17 (Monday)                   GRANADA / TOLEDO / MADRID
After breakfast travel to the Imperial city of Toledo – a national monument of Spain, where the cultures and great religions of Spain (Christian, Moorish and Jewish) have left behind a legacy that makes Toledo a special place to visit. After lunch, your sightseeing tour includes Spanish art, history and spirituality, helping to uncover some secrets of this historical and artistic city. Next is Madrid – END OF TOUR.
