2019 Itinerary:
Day 1 (Sunday) BARCELONA / ZARAGOZA / BILBAO
Depart this morning for Zaragoza, capital city of Aragon. Take a short stop with some free time, before continuing to Bilbao. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 2 (Monday) BILBAO / SANTILLANA / SANTANDER
After breakfast enjoy a guided tour of Bilbao, admire the impressive building that houses the Guggenheim museum (outside only). Continue to Santander. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 3 (Tuesday) SANTANDER / COVADONGA / OVIEDO
Breakfast and then depart through the spectacular mountain range that surrounds Covadonga, free time upon arrival for a visit to the shrine. This is final resting place of Pelayo, an 8th century warrior. Continue to the historic city of Oviedo, where pedestrians comfortably stroll through the traffic-free city centre. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 4 (Wednesday) OVIEDO / GIJON / LUGO
This morning after breakfast depart for Gijon, the second capital of the region of Asturias. Enjoy a short panoramic tour before visiting the seafaring town of Luarca and Ribadeo and finally continue to Lugo. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 5 (Thursday) LUGO / LA CORUNA
Following breakfast depart for La Coruna for a panoramic tour followed by free time to perhaps visit the 100m Roman lighthouse (Tower of Hercules) and its modern interactive museum. Afternoon Optional Excursion: To the Rias Atlas through typical villages such as Pontedeume, Betanzos, etc. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 6 (Friday) LA CORUNA / SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
After breakfast depart for Santiago de Compostela. Take a city tour of this legendary pilgrimage town including the Cathedral and Obradoiro Square. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 7 (Saturday) SANTIAGO / RIAS BAJAS / VIGO
Breakfast and then depart for the Spanish Fjords (Rias Bajas). Through splendid landscapes visit La Toja Island, ria de Arosa and Pontevedra. Afternoon Optional Excursion: Across the Portuguese border to Santa Tecla and Valenca do Mino. Continue to the fishing port of Vigo. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 8 (Sunday) VIGO / BRAGA / GUIMARAES / PORTO
Following breakfast cross the Portuguese border for a brief stop at Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary, before continuing to Braga, the ancient Roman city, for free time. Next stop is Guimaraes, the birthplace of Portuguese history. Free time. Continue to Porto.Dinner and accommodation.
Day 9 (Monday) PORTO / FATIMA
This morning after breakfast enjoy a panoramic tour of this World Heritage city to admire the Cathedral, the stock Exchange building and the Santa Clara church. Free time. This afternoon continue to Fatima, the site of the famous apparitions of the Virgin Mary. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 10 (Tuesday) FATIMA / LISBON
After breakfast, free time in Fatima the centre of Christian faith and world pilgrimage. Maybe visit the church housing the tombstones of Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco, as well as the Chapel of Apparitions, the heart of the shrine. There will be time to attend a mass before continuing to Lisbon. Accommodation.
Day 11 (Wednesday) LISBON
This morning after breakfast take a sightseeing tour of the ancient Olissipo. Drive through its main squares and avenues, by the Belem Tower, Jeronimos Monastery, Monument to the Discoveries, Marquis of Pombal Square, Liberty Avenue, the Alfama quarter and the old city gathered next to the castle. Afternoon at leisure. Accommodation.
Day 12 (Thursday) LISBON / CACERES / MADRID
After breakfast depart for Caceres in Spain, a world heritage city,founded by the Romans in 25BC. The old town section of this beautiful city invites travellers to enjoy the medieval streets, plazas, towers, battlements, palaces, churches and convents. Free time for some exploration and lunch; maybe enjoy the highly regarded local cuisine and wines at one of many inns and restaurants. Continue to Seville, a wonderful city and regarded by some as the romantic capital of Andalucía. END OF TOUR.
