Remote Canyons
Daily departures Travel across the fertile Cappadocian plains passing through several villages to arrive at Kaymakli, one of the largest and most fascinating multilevel underground cities and a unique feature of this region. Continue to Güzelyurt (Gelveri), home town of St. Gregory Nazianzen to take a short tour of this very authentic Turkish village. After lunch, descend into the sheer-sided canyon of Ihlara Valley. This deep lush canyon, divided by a stream, has ancient rock hewn churches remaining on both sides. Enjoy a very pleasant, easy 4km hike through the canyon to reach Belisirma, an authentic and unspoiled village. Leave for Selime to visit this surreal, ancient monastic site and several rock hewn churches before returning to the hotel.
Rocks and Ruins
Daily departures Start in Pigeon Valley then pass through typical Anatolian villages such as Ayvali and Mazi to Soğanlı Valley, also known as the ‘Valley of Dolls,’ where many Byzantine period rock tombs are found. Take a leisurely walk to explore Armenian architectural style rock carved churches and monastery ruins. After a village lunch, pass through Sahinefendi village and visit Sobessos, a recently discovered late Roman site featuring incredible mosaic work. Proceed to Taskinpasa Caravanserai which now serves as village library and features a wonderfully carved stone gate. Next is the Byzantine Keslik Monastery followed by Mustafapasha (Sinasos), renowned for its excellent Ottoman and Greek architecture. Here, take an easy stroll to explore the village and the first church constructed by the Ottomans for the Christian community. Proceed to Urgüp to explore this ancient town. Before returning to the hotel stop to see famous fairy chimneys known as “The Three Beauties.”
Lifestyles Walking Tour
