Enjoy a gastronomic and cultural journey through Green Spain, travelling through and visiting the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia on a luxury train. Day 1 (Saturday) Bilbao – Santander
Welcome meeting at Concordia Station in Bilbao at 1000 on board the train, meet the crew and then a sightseeing tour and visit to the Guggenheim Museum. Lunch on board as the train heads for Santander. An afternoon visit of the city, followed by free time. Dinner in a restaurant and time to visit the Casino del Sardinero. Overnight in Santander.
Day 2 (Sunday) Santander – Santillana – Arriondas
Enjoy your breakfast to the clickety-clack of the rails and spectacular landscapes on the way to Cabezon de la Sal, where the luxury coach awaits to take you in comfort and style to the town of Santillana del Mar, with its magnificently preserved Medieval historic quarter and the famous Altamira ‘Neocave’, a museum and scientific reproduction of the finest Upper Palaeolithic rock art ever found. After lunch, the train returns to Ribadesella in Asturias, with a tour, dinner and overnight stay in Arriondas.
Day 3 (Monday) Picos de Europa – Oviedo – Candas
After breakfast depart by coach to the first capital of the Astur Kingdom; Cangas de Onis. Visit the magnificent Picos de Europa National Park, ascending to Enol Lake, and then the Covadonga Sanctuary; a sacred place full of tradition and legends. Later return to the train and set off for Candas while we eat. Visit to Aviles, an ancient town with a beautifully preserved and valuable historic centre, and free time. Dinner and overnight in Candas.
Day 4 (Tuesday) Candas – Oviedo – Gijon – Luarca
After breakfast a visit to Oviedo, capital of the principality. Then onto Gijon, a city near the sea and full of energy with free time and lunch. In the afternoon continue by train to Luarca for a visit then dinner and overnight in Luarca.
Day 5 (Wednesday) Luarca – Ribadeo – Viveiro
Breakfast on board while we travel to Ribadeo, the first Galician spot on our route. Visit Ribadeo with lunch and free time. In the afternoon travel by train to Viveiro with a visit followed by dinner and overnight.
Day 6 (Thursday) Viveiro – Santiago de Compostela
Enjoy breakfast as we arrive in Ferrol where we will farewell the crew and depart by coach towards the Galican capital city. Visit Santiago de Compostela and enjoy lunch at Parador Reyes Catolicos where the trip will end at approximately 1600.
