MONDAY – Arrive Tel Aviv Airport
Arrival at airport, meet representative and transfer to Jerusalem for 3 nights
TUESDAY – Jerusalem – New City sightseeing
Drive to Mount of Olives for a view of the city then to the Garden of Gethsemane and Church of All Nations (the Agony). Continue to Israel Museum’s Shrine of the Book with the famous Dead Sea Scrolls then see the beautifully renovated model of the Herodian city of Jerusalem dating back to the Second Temple. Visit Yad Vashem (the memorial to the six million Jews killed in the Holocaust) then visit the picturesque village of Ein Karem (birthplace of John the Baptist).
WEDNESDAY – Jerusalem (Old City) – Bethlehem*
Walk through one of the gates to the walled Old City to see the renewed Jewish Quarter, the Western Wall, the Temple area and the colourful bazaars. Walk the Via Dolorosa and the Stations of the Cross ending at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Drive to Mt Zion for a visit to the tomb of King David, the room of the Last Supper and Dormition Abbey then continue to Bethlehem* to visit the Church of the Nativity and see the Shepherds’ Fields.
THURSDAY – Beit Shean – Nazareth – Galilee
Leave Jerusalem and drive north past Jericho, arguably the oldest city in the world, Follow the Jordan Valley to Beit Shean with its excavations of a beautifully preserved Roman City. Continue to Nazareth to see the Church of the Annunciation and Joseph’s carpentry workshop. Finally see Safed, city of the Kabala. Walk through the mystic alleys, visit a synagogue and the artists’ colony. Continue to a Kibbutz hotel for overnight.
FRIDAY – Sea of Galilee Region – Golan Heights
Drive to the Golan Heights passing Druze villages. See a former Syrian fortification then visit a local vineyard surrounded by breathtaking views and including a wine tasting. Pass by Banias waterfalls, source of the Jordan River to visit the Mount of Beatitudes. See the ruins of an ancient Synagogue and Peter’s house at Capernaum then Tabgha where the miracle of the loaves and fishes took place. Make a short tour of Tiberias, an ancient centre of Jewish learning. Optional boat ride on Lake Tiberias (Sea of Galilee).
SATURDAY – Acre – Haifa – Caesarea – Jaffa/Tel Aviv
Drive west to Acre to visit the famous Crusader stronghold and medieval fortifications. Continue to Haifa for a panoramic sightseeing tour including the Baha’i Shrine and Persian Garden, Mt Carmel and Haifa Bay. Depart south to look at the ancient Roman port of Caesarea, including its theatre and hippodrome before ending with a brief tour of Jaffa and Tel Aviv where you stay overnight.
SUNDAY – Tel Aviv
A day at leisure in Tel Aviv or an optional tour to the Dead Sea.
MONDAY – Depart Tel Aviv Airport
Transfer to the airport for departure
*Bethlehem is under Palestinian Authority jurisdiction. Passports required. Visit subject to political situation.
