SUNDAY – ARRIVE TEL AVIV
Upon arrival at the airport meet our representative and transfer to your hotel in Tel Aviv for overnight.
MONDAY – TEL AVIV – BEERSHEBA – MASADA – DEAD SEA – JERUSALEM
Leave Tel Aviv – via Ashdod – Ashkelon to Beersheba and a short visit to the Negev capital. Continue via Arad to Masada. Ascend by cable car to the fortress which was the last stronghold of the Jewish Zealots in their war against the Romans. Visit the excavations including Herod’s palaces, the synagogue, bathhouse etc. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the Roman camps and the Dead Sea before descending by cable car for a possible “float” in the salty water of the world’s lowest place. Proceed to Jerusalem for three nights.
TUESDAY – JERUSALEM – Sightseeing of the New City
Drive to the Mount of Olives for a panoramic view of Jerusalem, Continue to the Garden of Gethsemane and Church of the Agony (All Nations). New City sightseeing includes the Israel Museum’s Shrine of the Book with the famous Dead Sea Scrolls and the beautifully renovated model of the Herodian city of Jerusalem dating back to the Second Temple period. After seeing Yad Vashem (the memorial to the six million Jews who were killed in the Holocaust), afternoon visits to the picturesque village of Ein Karem (birthplace of John the Baptist) and Mahane Yehuda, Israel’s largest open air market.
WEDNESDAY – JERUSALEM – (OLD CITY) – BETHLEHEM*
Walk through one of the Gates in the walled Old City: to see the renewed Jewish Quarter; the Western Wall, the Temple area; the colourful bazaars. Then walk along Via Dolorosa, and the Stations of the Cross to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Drive to Mt Zion for a visit to the tomb of King David, the Room of the Last Supper and Dormition Abbey. In the afternoon continue to Bethlehem* to visit the Church of the Nativity and see Shepherd’s Fields.
THURSDAY – BEIT SHEAN – NAZARETH – GALILEE
Leave Jerusalem driving past Jericho, the oldest city in the world and through the Jordan Valley to Beit Shean. Visit the excavations of this beautifully preserved Roman City. Proceed to Nazareth to see the Church of the Annunciation and Joseph’s carpentry workshop. Finally see Safed, city of the Kabala. Walk through the mystic alleys, visit an old synagogue and the artists’ colony. Continue to a Kibbutz hotel for two nights.
FRIDAY – GOLAN HEIGHTS – SEA OF GALILEE REGION
Drive to the Golan Heights passing Druze villages. See a former Syrian fortification and pass by the Banias Waterfalls, source of the Jordan River. Stop at a local vineyard surrounded by breathtaking views for wine tasting before descending to the Sea of Galilee for visits to the Mount of Beatitudes, ruins of an ancient Synagogue and Peter’s house at Capernaum. Then see Tabgha where the miracle of the loaves and fishes took place and make a short tour of Tiberias, the ancient centre of Jewish learning. Optional boat ride on Lake Tiberias (Sea of Galilee).
SATURDAY – ACRE – HAIFA – CAESAREA – JAFFA/TEL AVIV
Drive west to Acre to visit the famous Crusader stronghold and medieval fortifications. Continue to Haifa for a panoramic sightseeing tour including the Baha’i Shrine, Persian Garden, Mt Carmel and Haifa Bay. We leave southwards visiting Caesarea’s Roman theatre, hippodrome and ancient port ending with a brief tour of Jaffa and Tel Aviv before an overnight
SUNDAY – DEPART TEL AVIV
Breakfast and transfer to the airport for departure. Or extend your stay in Israel for longer.
*Bethlehem is under Palestinian Authority jurisdiction. Passports required. This visit is subject to the political situation.
